PSV Operator Has Case for No Insurance Discontinued at the Door of the Court

A PSV Operator was represented in the Magistrates’ Court by Barrister Helen Newbold for allegedly having no insurance on his private car when he was stopped by the police.

The operator believed that his private vehicle was covered by his fleet insurance at the time that he was stopped. The nature of the fleet insurance was that any and all vehicles were covered by the insurance policy as long as the operator advised the insurance company on a quarterly basis what vehicles were in his possession.

After a discussion with the Prosecutor before the hearing, Helen Newbold was able to explain that the genuine and honest belief held by the operator, that he was insured, could be supported by documentary evidence he received from the insurance broker.  As a result, the Prosecution stated to the Magistrates’ that there was no case to answer and the charge was dropped.
