HGV Driver Spared Driver Conduct Hearing

This driver was disqualified from driving owing to a conviction for careless driving. He received a letter in October from the Office of the Traffic Commissioner stating that the Traffic Commissioner “after careful consideration” would allow him to reapply for his licence at the end of the disqualification. He was concerned, therefore, when a letter arrived at Christmas inviting him in for a driver conduct hearing to consider his vocational (truck) licence. He approached SBC. It was clear that this was one arm of the Office of the Traffic Commissioner (OTC) failing to appreciate the correspondence of another arm of the Office of the Traffic Commissioner. A quick letter to the OTC was all that was necessary to sort the confusion and the driver was de-invited from his meeting with the Traffic Commissioner.
