Driver Runs Down Ex Girlfriend – Charged with Dangerous Driving – CPS Accept Plea to Careless Driving. Fine and 6pp

The driver in this matter, represented by barrister Harry Bowyer, was asked by his daughter to pick her up from the pub where her mother had been drinking all afternoon. The defendant arrived at the pub and loaded his children in the car. He had his new girlfriend in the front passenger seat. The ex girlfriend’s new boyfriend and friend were standing nearby when the friend, a large gentleman, decided to have words with the defendant through the driver’s window. The ex girlfriend, who had consumed half a gallon of Carling, went to the passenger door and began to beat up the defendant’s new boyfriend. The new girlfriend screamed at the defendant to drive. He reversed back hitting the ex girlfriend with the open passenger door. has this occurred the new boyfriend ran around and punched the defendant through the open driver’s window.

The matter was listed for trial in the Crown Court on three occasions until the CPS  agreed to take a plea to careless driving. The defendant was sentenced to a £500 fine and 6pp.
