Driver Imprisoned for Causing Serious Injury by Dangerous Driving (Whilst Drunk) Regains His HGV Entitlement at Driver Conduct Hearing
The driver in this matter, represented by barrister Harry Bowyer at his driver conduct hearing, served a 22 month sentence for causing serious injury by dangerous driving when he had left the road in his car and hit pedestrians after a row with his wife. He passed his extended driving test in 2021 and had failed to regain his HGV entitlement at a previous driver conduct hearing when he represented himself.
The Traffic Commissioner noted that he had not reoffended since, his car licence had been clean for four years and he had sworn off drink since his release from prison. His application for the restoration of his HGV entitlement was granted subject to a warning that any repetition of his drink driving ways was likely to lead to the permanent loss of his vocational licence.
