Dinosaur Operator Keeps Licence at Traffic Commissioner’s Public Inquiry

This operator of a certain age, represented by barrister Harry Bowyer, was operator, transport manager, driver and mechanic for his operation and was not doing any of them well. He was using out dated PMI forms, brake testing 4 times a year and not recording TM and mechanic work as “other work!” He instructed a competent Transport Consultant who immediately put in a competent Transport Manager. The Traffic Commissioner was able to see that the new systems were taking effect and were being properly overseen. He allowed the licence to continue subject to a 1 week suspension. The operator lost his good repute as transport manager but kept it as operator. He undertook an audit in 6 months and not to do his own maintenance.
